QR Code Access: Setup and Hardware

QR Code access provides an alternative to Bluetooth entry, allowing members to unlock doors using only the Member App.
While Bluetooth is now the more common option, QR Codes can be a practical access solution for some clubs, particularly where phone compatibility or hardware constraints make Bluetooth less suitable.

QR Code access is always linked to the member’s current account. Members can only enter the club within the door access limits of their active membership or casual booking. Members with failed billing attempts, active holds, expired memberships, or cancelled memberships will not be able to access the club until the issue is resolved.

Enable QR Code Access

To set up QR Code access, you will need compatible hardware installed and integrated with GymMaster, QR Code access enabled in settings, and a QR Code displayed near the entry door. Members must also have the Member App installed on their phone.

QR Codes can be displayed in one of two ways:

Dynamic QR Codes

Recommended. Set by default

These codes change every 60 seconds and are displayed on a screen mounted securely near the door, offering higher security.
Dynamic QR Codes are enabled by default in GymMaster. Once your door is connected to the required hardware and a display screen is available.
Members will need use their Member App to scan QRCode.

Setup Dynamic QR Codes:
Dynamic QRCodes are enabled by default in GymMaster.
To setup them up, log in to GymMaster from the device that will display the QR Code (computer or tablet). You can optionally use the Kiosk App for this purpose.
Navigate to Settings > Doors and Readers, locate the required door, and select the QRCode icon on the far right.
The QR Code page will display a code that refreshes automatically every 60 seconds.
Ensure the screen is clearly visible to members near the entry door.

Members will need use their Member App to scan QRCode.

Static QR Codes

Static QR Codes can be copied or shared and therefore pose a higher security risk. For this reason, they are not recommended for main entrance doors.

These generate a single printable code that is valid for up to 12 months. They are less secure and are typically printed and attached near the door. Static codes must also be scanned using the Member App.

Static QR Codes generate a single printable code linked to a specific door and remain valid for up to 12 months. When scanned from within the Member App, the door will unlock if the member has valid access.

Enable Static QR Codes:
To enable static QR Codes, go to Settings > Advanced Configuration > Doors and Readers, enable Static Check In QR Codes, then save. This adds an option to download a static QR Code from each door’s settings page.

Static QRCodes can also be used using a tablet or screen, in the same way as your dynamic codes. You can also Print Static QR Codes; Navigate to Settings > Doors and Readers, select the required door, and open its control page.
Use the Check-In QR Code button at the top right to download the static QR Code file, then print and display it near the door.

Location-based security:
For added security when using static codes, GymMaster logs the location of the person scanning the code. This prevents copied codes from being used to unlock doors from a different location.
To ensure this works correctly, your club’s full location coordinates must be set in Settings > Club Details > Address.

QR Code Hardware

QR Code access requires GateKeeper to be installed, with a relay-wired door lock.
Dynamic QR Codes additionally require a screen (such as a tablet or monitor) mounted securely near the door to display the code.

Contact your GymMaster Sales Representative to discuss hardware requirements and installation options for QR Code access.

Enable Member App Access

Members must have access to the Member App in order to use QR Code entry.

Go to Member Portal Configuration > General, enable Enable Member App Access for Members, and save.

QR Code Check-In Process

Once QR Codes are set up and displayed, members can access the club using the Member App on their phone.

Members open the app as they approach the door and tap the QR Check In icon at the top of the dashboard.
This icon only appears when the facility supports QR Code check-in.
The app activates the camera, allowing the member to scan the displayed QR Code.
If access is approved, the door unlocks.

QR Code access remains fully tied to the member’s current account. Members can only enter within the door access limits of their active membership or casual booking. Members with failed billing attempts, active holds, expired memberships, or cancelled memberships will be denied access until the issue is resolved.
