Understanding Member Holds
A Hold temporarily pauses a member’s membership for a specified period. Holds can be used when a member is unable to use the club for a period of time, such as during a holiday, injury, or illness.
Types of Holds
GymMaster provides several ways to place memberships on hold. The option you use depends on who is applying the hold and how many members are affected.
| Hold Type | Who applies it? | When to use it | Common examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual Hold | Staff | Place an individual member’s membership on hold manually. Use when a member contacts the club to request a hold, or when staff need to manage a hold on the member’s behalf. | A member is going on holiday; a member is temporarily injured or unwell; staff need to place a specific member’s membership on hold. |
| Online Hold | Member | Allow members to place their own membership on hold through the Member Portal or Member App. Clubs can configure rules such as minimum notice, permitted hold duration, and applicable hold fees. | A member wants to place their membership on hold while they are away on holiday. |
| Mass Hold | Admin | Place multiple members' memberships on hold at the same time. Use when the same hold needs to be applied to a large group of members. | The club is temporarily closed; a facility or service is unavailable for an extended period; a large group of members needs the same hold applied. |
Configure Holds
Holds can be configured to suit your club’s rules, including how long a hold can last, how often a member can use a hold, whether fees apply, and other hold conditions.
Configure your hold settings at Settings > Advanced Configuration > Member Holds, and for Online Holds also complete settings at Settings > Member Portal Configuration > Member Holds
Block Member Access
If you need staff or GymMaster to prevent a member from accessing the club, rather than placing their membership on hold, see How to Block Member Access.
This can be used for situations such as outstanding payments or other conditions that should prevent a member from accessing the club.
